Het concept van de niet-verbale leerstoornis - door velen beter gekend als NLD - ligt zeker in het Nederlandstalige gebied onder vuur. Er gaan stemmen op om te spreken over een ruimtelijk visuele leerstoornis. Het is niet de bedoeling om in deze blog op deze discussie in te gaan. Daar zijn andere kanalen en plaatsen voor.

Wil je echter meedoen aan de discussie, dan moet je op zijn minst op de hoogte zijn van de theorie achter dit concept. Deze theorie werd uitgewerkt door de Canadees Byron P. Rourke. Op een nieuwe en eigen website geeft hij meer uitleg over zijn theorie. Of zoals hij het zelf zegt:

This site is designed to explain my perspectives regarding the syndrome of nonverbal learning disabilities (NLD) and related matters.  I felt it necessary to do so for the following reasons:

- I have encountered much misinformation with respect to my views about NLD. So, I decided it would be well to set the record straight. 
- I am often asked about literature regarding NLD. So, another purpose of this site is to provide references to such work.
- There are a number of questions about NLD that are posed to me quite often. The Questions and Answers section of the site provides some responses to these queries.

Hopefully, this site will expand and evolve in ways that are of interest and helpful to the concerned reader.
